MN is a 69 year old female who first attended the clinic on 4 July 2018.
She originally attended the clinic wanting assistance with other symptoms, and possibly her lumbar spine which was now starting to cause pain. As a teenager she was diagnosed with scoliosis.
She was 18 when she had Harrington Rods inserted on her thoracic spine to straighten her spine which had a long “C” curve of 67 degrees. After the surgery the curve was reduced to 33 degrees. Now 50 years later the curve increased to 62 degrees, even with the rods (confirmed with an x-ray on 5 July 2018).
She started with the Intensive Care/Boot Camp Programme on 17 July 2018, and worked diligently following the behavioural changes and recommendations.
On 30 July 2018 she had a follow up x-ray to check on the progress. The curve had dropped to 52 degrees. That was a 10 degree drop in 25 days.
She continued with care, and after another 2 weeks on 13 August 2018 she had another follow up x-ray which showed another 4 degree drop to 48 degrees.
She is very happy with her progress and continues to attend the clinic twice a week.
There is some uncertainty as to what reductions are possible because of the rods. However, this is a good example of how even with surgical intervention curves can still progress, and also how the body has a remarkable ability to heal when you know how.
